Pocketnest™, the personal financial planning app, is one of 15 companies selected from hundreds of Michigan-based start-ups to compete for a share of $1.2MM in funding in the Quicken Loans Detroit Demo Day pitch competition.

Pocketnest™ was chosen for its competitive advantage in the finance and fintech fields and skilled leadership team.

“This competition provides a unique opportunity to support and celebrate the small businesses that serve as the cornerstones of Detroit, creating jobs and wealth for the entire community,” said James Chapman, Entrepreneur in Residence for the Quicken Loans Community Fund. “Detroit would not be the city it is without entrepreneurs like the ones you will see on stage at Quicken Loans Detroit Demo Day. This city was founded by entrepreneurs, and its next chapter will be written by them.”

Jessica Willis, Pocketnest™ founder, will pitch the startup’s successes and growth strategies to a nationally-acclaimed panel of judges. She will have 90 seconds to present.

“I believe in the revolutionary power of fintech and financial wellness, and their ability to empower and change lives, said Willis. “Investing in startups like Pocketnest provides more people access to innovative financial education, and ultimately, financial freedom.”

The top seven pitches will receive funding ranging from $50,000 – $300,000 to grow their businesses. An additional $25,000 grant will be awarded to one people’s choice winner in each of the competition’s three categories—Start, Grow and Scale. Pocketnest™ is competing in the Start category.

The 2019 judging panel includes John Henry, entrepreneur and partner, Harlem Capital and host of Hustleon Viceland; Suzanne Shank, CEO, Siebert Cisneros Shank & Co.; Jason White, Chief Marketing Officer, Cura Cannabis Solutions; and Tony Ambroza, Chief Brand Officer, Carhartt.

Quicken Loans Detroit Demo Day will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at the Fillmore Detroit. It is free and open to the public. Tickets are available at DetroitDemoDay.com.
